FQM-208: GlycoChemBio: Glycochemistry & Bioconjugation
The research group FQM-208: GlycoChemBio: Glycochemistry and Bioconjugation is a multidisciplinary group in which through the combination of Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry we pursue advances in knowledge related to Glycochemistry and Bioconjugation and its implementation for the development of new technologies and biotechnologies in these areas.
Their current interests are focused on the development of new procedures based on synthetic methodologies such as click-chemistry and vinyl sulfone chemistry and their applications in targets such as:
- Biomolecule labelling.
- Immobilisation of biomolecules.
- Preparation of hybrid materials and polymeric matrices.
- Development of non-viral specific gene transfection agents.
- Drug transport.
Their activities have a strong innovative character and one of their characteristics is the transfer of knowledge through new patents.
The GlycoChemBio group is part of the Department of Organic Chemistry of the UGR, belongs to the Institute of Biotechnology of the University and is registered in the Andalusian Plan for Research, Development and Innovation (Group FQM-208). It was founded in 1988 and has extensive experience in the fields of organic synthesis, carbohydrate chemistry, glycochemistry, bioconjugation and in areas related to biochemistry (protein purification, molecular biology and protein crystallisation).
His main lines of research are as follows:
- Bioconjugation of biomolecules. Biotechnological applications.
- Immobilisation on solid substrates. Resins and arrays.
- Synthesis of new catalysts and application to click chemistry.
- Synthesis and applications of polymeric matrices.
