FQM-324: Differential geometry and its Applications

This research group has more than 20 years of research experience. It has a large team of 19 researchers with presence in 6 Spanish universities in 5 Autonomous Communities and one of its members is a foreigner. It is an interdisciplinary group, its members being mathematicians, physicists and mathematical-physicists; specifically in the areas of Geometry and Topology, Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. The group has both a pure and applied character, within basic research, and has been the driving force behind numerous Andalusian meetings on Differential Geometry, which have also been attended by foreign researchers.
It is worth highlighting the social commitment of the group to transmit scientific knowledge to society in an appropriate way, as several of its members regularly carry out scientific dissemination work in front of different types of audiences.

The main lines of research of this group are the following:

- Mean curvature of spatial subvarieties in spacetimes.

- Causal structure of spacetimes

- Geometry and dynamics of relativistic particles.

- Metric connections with torsion and Cartan connections.

- Hypersurfaces in symmetric spaces.

- Variational problems in geometry and their applications to physics.

- Mathematical relativity: initial value problem, gravitational waves, Finslerian modifications of General Relativity.

- Symmetries in spacetimes.

- Minimal surfaces and geometric evolution equations.
