SEJ-170: Landscape, land planning and local development

The research group SEJ-170: Landscape, territorial planning and local development, attached to the Regional Development Institute (IDR) of the University of Granada, was created in 1991 with the purpose of favoring the joint work of different researchers who undertake studies of landscape, connecting these studies with the objectives of the Planning of the Territory and, ultimately, with the needs of local development. The use of cartography as a tool for analysis and presentation of results and Geographic Information Systems are some of the hallmarks of the group.

The members of the group are mainly professors and researchers in the area of ​​geography at the universities of Granada and Jaén. The group also has some economists.


The main lines of research are the following:
- Landscape analysis and management.

Geographic Information Technologies (GIS; Remote Sensing).

Urban structures and systems in Spain and Andalusia.

Management of protected areas.

- Energy transition and renewable energies

- Sustainable development in rural areas.

- Climate, climate change and tourism

- Planning and management of sustainable and competitive tourist destinations

- Evaluation of municipal public policies

- Environmental degradation, viticulture and soil geography

- Geography of animals.
