Work has been ongoing since 1991 within a research group recognised and funded by the Regional Government of Andalusia with the name Theory and Research Methods in Mathematical Education, which in 2000 changed to Theory of Mathematical Education and Statistical Education. The group works on fundamental non-guided research into teaching mathematics, collaborating with the main international journals and organisations in the field. Funded projects have been carried out since the group was created, including a high number of directed doctoral theses.
