FQM-126: Theory of education, mathematics and statistical education
The Research Group FQM-126: Theory of Mathematics Education and Statistics Education has its origins at the end of the eighties when a large team of mathematics education teachers from the School of Teaching at the University of Granada committed to working in an organized way in the investigation in mathematics education.
On the one hand, the group has been a pioneer in statistical education research in Spain, when statistics was not taught in primary school and related research was very scarce. They have carried out epistemological studies, school textbook analysis, evaluation of students and prospective teachers, and teaching experiences on different statistical contents. Their results have identified new relevant variables for learning.
The group stands out for developing the Ontosemiotic Approach of mathematical knowledge and instruction, as a theoretical system that tries to articulate different perspectives and notions about teaching and learning mathematics and mathematical knowledge for teaching. Based on anthropological and semiotic assumptions, it is supported by contributions from various disciplines such as epistemology, psychology, sociology, semiotics, and educational sciences.
