BIO-157

The Bio-157 group (Drugs, Environmental Toxics and Cellular Metabolism) was created in 1989 and consolidated by the General Directorate of Universities and Research of the Department of Education and Science of the Andalusian Regional Government. It is currently made up of 6 members, 5 of them PhDs and 1 graduate.

The activity developed by the group "Drugs, Environmental Toxics and Cellular Metabolism" (Bio-157) focuses on the isolation and characterization of natural products and synthetic derivatives with biological activity extracted from plant and animal sources. The main objective is to deepen in the mechanisms, at cellular and molecular level, through which these compounds improve the state of well-being and prevent or serve as treatment of diseases, such as cancer or other human pathologies that involve inflammatory processes and oxidative stress. To this end, in vitro assay techniques, animal experimentation and clinical trials are applied.
