HUM-839: Alonso Cano and the Granadan School

This research group was created in 2007, on the back of research undertaken in two R&D projects on the 17th century painter, sculptor and architect, Alonso Cano, and his work. Members of the group, whose chief researcher is the same in both cases, took part in that research.

The aim in creating this research group was to consolidate the scientific achievements attained in the above-mentioned research projects and also to enable the artists of the Granadan Baroque School to be studied, whose leading exponent was Alonso Cano. Another reason was to examine in depth the techniques and materials these artists employed to express their vision in material form. These insights could be extended to other painters and sculptors of the same period or different periods.
