The group was created in December 2004, with the aim of promoting research in architecture with regard to the relations between architecture and other areas of contemporary culture.

The group is made up of researchers from five university colleges: the three public Schools of Architecture of Andalusia (Granada, Seville and Málaga) and the Roads, Canals and Ports and Building Engineering schools of the University of Granada. The group also has close relationships with many European and American Schools of Architecture, and with research centres in other countries.
