The research group was created in 1995 with the aim of drawing together researchers who started similar lines and who were carrying out their research under the same management. The predominant lines of research in that year were focussed on the relationship between linguistics, literature and stylistics, and were derived from the doctoral theses carried out and work presented at congress, symposia and other research meetings. The work is predominantly aimed at studies of text and discourse with an emphasis on modern English. The members of the group belong to the same international associations and organise meetings with notable specialists. Moreover, since 2006 they have held an annual meeting under the heading "Rhetoric and translation".
