Improvement of the configuration of a nuclear reactor (BWR type) by means of metaheuristic techniques

The configuration of a boiling water nuclear reactor requires the resolution of a series of optimization problems that are rarely tackled simultaneously. In collaboration with the National Institute of Nuclear Research of Mexico, the group has designed and implemented hybrid optimization systems that allow to obtain better configurations than the reference ones, maintaining safety levels and, additionally, enabling the operating cycles to be slightly longer, with the consequent economic saving.
