The group was established in 1996, merging two former groups. The fundamental objectives of the group are basic research into endogenous, igneous, and metamorphic processes, and the development of instrumental techniques for geochronology and geochemistry, including the electron microprobe, atomic absorption, ICP-MS, LA-ICP-MS and, recently, the SHRIMP ion microprobe.
