Advanced information retrieval systems in general - and within the context of the Web in particular - have to respond to new information access needs. Multi-lingual information retrieval or question answering systems are among the new proposals. The incorporation of natural language processing techniques and the application of semantic web tools and metadata mean that there is a solid tendency to improve the systems.
