The group was created on 1^st January 1995 as an expansion of the HUM417 group (Research in Slavic Philology), also founded by him in 1995.

The main aim of the group is to develop research in the field of slavistics, caucasology and linguistic typology, and seek practical applications for them.

It is currently the only Research group in Spain carrying out research on the languages of the Caucasus.
