The group was formed in 2001 and is made up of geographers who work in the area of human geography. One of its research lines is the analysis of the situations, causes and consequences related to socio-spatial inequalities observed in different territorial spaces. This necessarily entails revisiting and examining in depth the historical processes that have played a part in creating the present.

Today, urban and rural land development cannot be considered without planning, which makes this another priority in the group’s research – indispensable for understanding the processes that guide and determine changes in the landscape. Finally, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) involve incorporating advances in computer technology into geographic analysis. Rigorous, effective and up-to-date geographic research would be difficult to achieve without the help of this tool. Therefore the group applies these systems in its different lines of research, which is one of its distinguishing characteristics.
