The group was created in 1995 with the aim of deepening understanding of the materials involved in creating sculpture, especially those related to technical and artistic casting and its conservation.

Among the group’s lines of research the following may be emphasised: technical and artistic casting; materials in art; refractory and gasifiable materials; patination and colouring in metals and their alloys; refractory linings and mortars; molochite in moulds for glass casting; hot glass techniques.

All the advances made by the group can be applied to the field of metals and glass, as well as to other artistic areas and their conservation. The group is made up of technically and artistically trained personnel.
