The group was formed at the time the research groups were created.

Its aim was and continues to be the publication and study of written sources in the service of research in general, within a mediaeval and modern chronological framework.

In line with these aims it has worked on editing local and national sources, as may be seen in SICA (System of Scientific Information of Andalusia).
