HUM-216: Recovery of Latin sources and study of the classical tradition in Andalusia

The group was formed when the Autonomous Government of Andalusia created the Research Groups. Already, in 1984-86, the same Regional Government had given us a research project that consisted of compiling Latin renaissance sources from libraries in eastern Andalusia, especially in Granada, Almería and Jaén, and beginning to study some of them.

The group focuses its work on the recovery of renaissance sources, studying, publishing and translating many of them. It is also concerned with everything related to the reconquest of Granada, the discovery of America, the reign of the Catholic Monarchs, Charles V and Phillip II, etc.

Other lines of research undertaken by the group are the stylistico-literary study of poets from the classical Latin period, such as Virgil and Ovid, and the study of mediaeval and Jesuit theatre of the renaissance and the start of the baroque period.
