HUM-215: Archaeology and history of Southern Spain in the Roman and Visigothic period
The research group was formed in 1985. Its chief aims were to develop historical knowledge about Southern Spain in the Iberian, Roman and Visigothic period, and to systematise literary, epigraphic, numismatic and archaeological documentation relating to Southern Spain.
Currently, researchers work on the following lines of research:
- Studies on the romanisation of Spain
- Study of the Hispano-Roman cities of Southern Spain
- Systemisation of Latin inscriptions
- Systemisation of numismatic documentation
The group has taken part in several archaeological excavations:
- Colonia Iulia Gemella Acci (Guadix) until 1999, which it directed
- Fregellae and Pompeya (Italy)
