Direct estimations of socio-demographic characteristics at a national level can be easily obtained from a sample surveys. However, it is not possible to obtain direct estimations for small areas. We study problems of adaptation of small area estimation methods to various specific surveys, which depend on the sample design used and the available information at a population and area level.
