Living hybrid materials with biomedical applications

The integration of cells/bacteria into materials, the so-called Hybrid Living Materials (HLMs), is currently one of the most original and promising approaches for the synthesis of new materials that can provide answers to the health problems with the greatest social impact. Our group has developed several methodologies for the incorporation of live probiotic bacteria into materials such as collagen and bacterial cellulose. These materials behave as excellent "antibiotic-free" antibacterial agents against common pathogenic strains in topical infections.
