Use of the melatonin for the prevention and/or treatment of mucositis
A research group at the University of Granada has developed a pharmaceutical preparation of melatonin for the treatment and prevention of oral mucositis. It offers a product that includes melatonin or its derivative with a specify concentration for the treatment and/or prevention of oral mucositis. The success of this preparation lies in the type of gel that permeates the entire gastrointestinal mucosa and in the the specific concentration used for melatonin. The advantage of our product is that it can revert up to 100% of oral mucositis, while there are not other product to treat this pathology in the market. The research group is looking for companies interested in the drug’s preparation for human and/or veterinarian use.
Innovations
Currently, there is no an effective treatment for mucositis from what this product has an enormous interest to the pharmaceutical industry. This preparation of the gel of melatonin for human and veterinary use covers a gap in the market. Mucositis is a problem that greatly complicates the treatment of cancer. The use of our preparation prevents the occurrence of oral mucositis, which means that we can prevent the use of nasogastric tubes, the use of opioids, and, the most serious problem, prevents discontinuation of treatment against cancer. This is a preparation easy to prepare, with a great stability, and that is going to improve the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing chemo and/or radiation therapy.
