CTS-366: Ageing and health

Currently there are many researchers who study ageing from different viewpoints in order to understand both the reasons for longevity, and the way to live longer but in better physical, social and mental conditions, by seeking a satisfactory ageing model.

Physical activity and nutrition are important for maintaining functional independence in older people. Currently there is evidence that people that lead active lives are less prone to developing chronic diseases, they are more satisfied with their life and have a better perception of their health. In this line, the research group has studied the quality of life of older people since 1995, paying special attention to the practice of physical exercise and its promotion as a healthy life style, not only for the older people but also for their carers. Its participation in classroom activities for older people, especially in the autonomous city of Ceuta, gives to the group a very important educational area to encourage active ageing. Furthermore, the complementary nature the group's researchers' profiles gives a multidisciplinary and multifactorial approach to its research activity, which is translated into several interrelated lines of research whose common objective is healthy ageing from primary and secondary prevention and management of care.
