CTS-164: Pharmacology of Natural Products

This research group was created in 1995, with the aim of analysing the effects of natural products, especially dietetic polyphenols, on vascular tone and intestinal transit. Subsequently, these objectives were broadened, not only increasing the range of compounds tested with drugs of synthetic origin but, principally, focusing the studies on prevention and treatment of cardiovascular pathologies, such as hypertension and metabolic syndrome, and gastro-intestinal, such as inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome.

This research group is very versatile with many methodologies at its disposal, with in vivo test techniques with experimentation animals and ex vivo and in vitro functional techniques. In recent years, they have developed cell and molecular mechanistic aspects, with cell and tissue cultures, and gene and protein expression techniques.
