The research group was established in 1991/1992 in order to analyse the importance of trace elements (mainly zinc and magnesium) in human disease. Although the quantitative presence of these elements in the human body is very low, they play a fundamental role in its various metabolic processes.
The most important findings obtained over the years concern, above all, the fact that a lack or deficiency in these trace elements is closely related to a worse clinical status of patients (diabetes, hepatopathy, high blood pressure, etc.).
