The group was created in 1991 with the aim of deepening the study of post surgical pain in children and to improve its treatment in paediatric patients.

The main lines of research from the start of the group's activities were:

 Physiological and physiopathological aspects of pain in general and, preferentially, of post surgical pain in children.

 The study of the effectiveness and efficiency of different analgesic administration methods. In addition, the determination of the effectiveness of different types of analgesics is considered.
