Study of plant resistance responses to different types of abiotic stress

This concerns how the manipulation of the nutritional status of an essential or non essential ionic element can facilitate the tolerance responses to different abiotic stresses in plants. As regards the various metabolic process that are considered tolerance responses, we study the metabolism of proline and quaternary ammonium compounds, metabolism of sugars, oxidative metabolism and antioxidant capacity, and nutritional status of the plants. Among the abiotic stresses that are analysed in this line of research, the main ones are ionic toxicity and some environmental stresses such as temperature, solar radiation and water deficit. Finally, another important aspect of this line of research is the analysis of how alterations in the nutritional status of the plants and the appearance of different types of stress can influence the production and nutritional quality of plant products intended for human consumption
