The new public management: The fourth pillar of territorial sustainability

The territory is of strategic value to a nation, its sustainable development and promotion as a an ideal place where economic, social and environmental policies are harmonised and integrated must be a common objective of Spain and each one of its regional and local administrations. If we add to the above the need to move towards new public management models, we will have to add a fourth pillar on which to construct and develop sustainable territories. And it is this sustainability that demands a reform in our institutions that is aimed at new forms of shared public management, that is committed to the efficient institutional coordination between the various administrations and of these with civil society, and which encourages social participation and the implementation of public-private cooperation initiatives. All this with the ultimate aim of carrying out the proper sustainable management of our cities.
