Color Imaging Laboratory
The Colour Imaging Lab of the Department of Optics at the University of Granada is a research group specialising in colour and spectral imaging (multispectral and hyperspectral), applied colorimetry, colour perception and vision, and image processing techniques. Our work combines basic research with the development of advanced optical and computational solutions applicable to multiple scientific and industrial sectors.
We specialise in capturing and processing multi- and hyperspectral images using instruments and algorithms that enable object recognition, material analysis and visual quality enhancement in real environments. In the field of colour vision, we investigate colour constancy, colour vision abnormalities (colour blindness) and human visual salience. Some of the applications we have addressed in the field of imaging technologies include the performance of spectral image capture prototypes, the improvement of the visibility of images deteriorated by the atmosphere, food analysis, the monitoring of marine water health through the detection of microplastics in sea salt samples, and the identification of pigments and inks in manuscripts and paintings. Our work has applications in fields as diverse as industrial inspection, agri-food, material characterisation, cultural heritage conservation, artificial vision, and medical and environmental imaging.
Our laboratory has state-of-the-art instrumentation, proprietary spectral databases and a solid network of national and international collaboration, enabling us to undertake R&D projects focused on technology transfer and innovation. Our instrumentation includes hyperspectral cameras in the visible, ultraviolet and near-infrared ranges, multispectral cameras, RGB cameras, infrared reflectography cameras, thermal cameras, spectroradiometers, scanning systems, lighting systems, samples for calibrating imaging systems, etc.
The updated list of instruments can be consulted at the following link.
Color Imaging Lab offers its knowledge and experience to collaborate with companies and institutions interested in applying image analysis techniques to process improvement, automation, or the development of high value-added products.
